Which Focus suits you

Keen drivers

The 2.3 EcoBoost ST produces 280 PS and is the Focus for drivers who put performance first. It is the only engine fitted to the ST trim, so choosing it means accepting a sportier focus than the other models.

Diesel buyers

The 1.5 EcoBlue 120 is the only diesel in the range. Diesel can suit drivers who cover higher mileages, particularly on motorways, and it is offered with Titanium, ST-Line and Active trims.

Hybrid buyers

The 1.0 EcoBoost Hybrid 125 and 1.0 EcoBoost Hybrid 155 are mild hybrid petrol engines, so they add electrical assistance to a petrol engine rather than running on electric power alone. They suit buyers who want a petrol car with some efficiency support and no plugging in.

Best way to get this car

Leasing, PCP, HP and buying outright compared

How the main ways to fund a Focus compare. General guidance only, not financial advice or an offer.

Lease (PCH)

Fixed monthly payments with no resale risk, well suited to those who like a new car every few years.

PCP

Lower monthly payments with an optional final payment, and flexibility at the end of the term.

HP (hire purchase)

Spreads the cost with ownership at the end, suiting those keeping the car long term.

Subscription

Flexible and simple, though usually costlier per month than other routes.

Buy outright

Strong used market and low running costs make owning outright a sensible option.

Leasing vs buying

The case for each with a Focus
Leasing
  • ✓Payments may come as monthly or other structures, for example an initial rental followed by monthly payments, so the way the cost is spread depends on the agreement.
  • ✓Some lease agreements end with the car being returned, while other finance routes, such as PCP or hire purchase, may allow you to buy the car at the end.
Buying
  • ✓Buying used allows a choice of age, mileage and specification.
  • ✓With finance such as PCP or hire purchase, you generally do not own the car until the final payment, or the optional final payment, is made. The buyer remains liable for the outstanding balance under the agreement until it is settled, and with cash purchase ownership is immediate with no balance owed.

Which works out cheaper depends on your annual mileage, how long you keep the car and whether you want to own it. Try the true cost of leasing calculator to compare.
