What is the average petrol price in the UK today?
The table at the top of this page shows the current UK average for unleaded (E10) and super unleaded (E5), worked out from the latest price reported by every open station with a recent, sensible price.
Why are supermarkets usually lower than motorway services?
Supermarkets sell fuel in high volumes and often use it to bring in shoppers, so they accept a thinner margin. Motorway services charge for convenience and have little local competition.
Where does this data come from?
It comes from the government Fuel Finder service, where UK fuel retailers report their pump prices. It is published under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
How often does this page update?
The page refreshes about every 30 minutes, and station prices are refreshed through the day. Retailers report changes as they happen, and a price can lag the pump by up to about 30 minutes.
How do you deal with wrong prices?
Retailers enter their own prices, so we ignore anything outside 100p to 300p a litre and anything not updated in the last 30 days. Closed stations are left out.
Where does the long-run price history come from?
The history section uses the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero weekly road fuel prices, which give UK average pump prices for petrol (ULSP) and diesel (ULSD) every week since June 2003. They are a separate source from the live station prices above.
How much does fuel cost me over a year?
That depends on your car and your mileage. Use the fuel and charging cost calculator to turn a price per litre into a yearly figure.
