Frequently asked questions
Where do these fuel prices come from?
They come from the government Fuel Finder service, where UK fuel retailers report their pump prices. We refresh them through the day, so what you see is close to the current price.
How up to date are the prices?
Retailers report changes as they happen, and a price can lag the pump by up to about 30 minutes. Each station shows when its price was last updated. Prices older than 30 days are greyed out and left out of the averages.
Why does a station show a price that looks wrong?
Retailers enter their own prices and a few make mistakes. We ignore anything outside a sensible range of 100p to 300p a litre, but an odd price inside that range can slip through. Check the pump before you fill up.
How is the saving on a 50 litre tank worked out?
It is the difference in pence per litre between the local average and the lowest price near you, multiplied by 50 litres. It is a guide, and the lowest-priced station may be further than you want to drive.
Is it worth driving further for lower fuel prices?
Only if the saving beats the cost of the extra miles. A few pence a litre on a full tank is often used up by a long detour, so check the distance against the saving.
Do you use my location?
Only if you press Use my location, and your browser will ask first. The coordinates are used to find nearby stations and are not stored.
