By Adrian, Car Lease Deals UK · Updated 16 October 2026
Sharing its platform with the Skoda Kodiaq and Passat, the third-generation Tiguan reached the UK in 2024. It is aimed at families wanting space and quiet rather than sharp handling. Mild-hybrid petrol, diesel and two plug-in hybrid outputs make up the range, with 4Motion on the 2.0 TSI.
A transparent score for the Volkswagen Tiguan, worked out from official UK figures, not opinion. Running costs and emissions compare it like for like: same class, same fuel and powertrain.

Official figures, checked October 2026. Values marked ≈ are approximate.
Plug-in hybrid economy is the official WLTP weighted figure, which assumes the battery is charged regularly. With a flat battery a plug-in hybrid runs mostly on petrol, so real economy is much lower on long journeys. Electric economy is shown in miles per kWh.

Insurance groups and premiums vary by driver, location and history, so these are indicative bands only.
Yearly cost at 10,000 miles on official economy. Petrol 175.3p and diesel 200.0p a litre (UK average, week commencing 12 October 2026); electric 26.32p per kWh charged at home (1 October to 31 December 2026).

The 19.7kWh plug-in hybrid can cover many school runs and commutes on electricity, with the petrol engine for longer trips.
A 652-litre boot, a long wheelbase and a quiet cabin make the Tiguan easy to live with as a one-car family.
Plug-in hybrid CO2 figures of 9 to 10 g/km place the car in low benefit-in-kind bands for company car drivers.
The 2.0 TDI 150 has 360Nm of torque and a higher towing limit than the petrols, useful for caravans and trailers.

The 2.0 TSI 265 4Motion reaches 62mph in 5.9 seconds with 400Nm of torque, well ahead of the 9.1 seconds of the 1.5 eTSI 150.
No. Every UK Tiguan of this generation uses a DSG automatic gearbox, six-speed on the plug-in hybrids and seven-speed on the rest.
Volkswagen UK lists Life, Match, Style, R-Line and Black Edition, though not every trim is offered with every engine.
